Biology Lab Associate – Part-Time

Entech Staffing is seeking a dedicated and experienced Biology Lab Associate III to provide essential lab support and technical services for a biology lab. This part-time, 30-hour per week, position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

In this vital role, you’ll work closely with faculty, contributing to the success of courses including general biology, organismal biology, ecology, cell and molecular biology, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, environmental science, and science education.


Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive lab support and technical services for various Biology courses.

  • Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, materials, and reagents.

  • Ensure adherence to standard laboratory safety protocols, including BSL-1 and BSL-2 biological agents and chemical hazardous materials.

  • Perform standard laboratory calculations accurately.

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving laboratory equipment malfunctions.

  • Manage and organize laboratory resources, including materials and equipment.

  • Collaborate effectively with instructors, staff, and administrators within the Biology Department and the School of STEM.

  • Plan for future events, scheduling changes, and course offerings to ensure smooth lab operations.

  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing a positive learning experience for students.


Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related discipline.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience with biology laboratory techniques.

  • Proven knowledge of standard laboratory safety protocols.

  • Familiarity with standard laboratory equipment and procedures.

  • Demonstrated experience with molecular biology and microbiology laboratory techniques is highly preferred.

  • Broad experience and knowledge in laboratory and field techniques are a plus.

  • Previous experience in laboratory preparation is desirable.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning: Ability to perform accurate computations and apply mathematical techniques to solve practical problems, including standard laboratory calculations.

  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in using computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems relevant to lab work.

  • Physical Dexterity: Ability to perform tasks requiring eye-hand coordination, including bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, kneeling, stooping, and lifting 20-50 lbs.

  • Hazardous Materials Knowledge: Understanding of hazardous materials and waste, including their uses, interactions, dangers, production, handling, storage, and disposal, with the ability to follow safety protocols.

  • Planning and Evaluating: Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities, determine resource requirements, and coordinate effectively to achieve goals. Ability to multitask and work independently.

  • Reading Comprehension: Ability to understand and interpret written technical material, rules, regulations, instructions, reports, charts, graphs, or tables, and apply learned information to specific situations.

  • Attention to Detail: Thorough and conscientious in performing all work tasks.

  • Customer Service: A genuine interest in assessing needs, providing assistance, and resolving problems for individuals who use or receive laboratory services, particularly students.

  • Flexibility: Openness to change, new information, and adapting work methods in response to evolving conditions or obstacles.

  • Technical Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, analyze, and identify system malfunctions.


Schedule:

Standard daytime work hours are expected, but deviations may occur based on workload and departmental needs. Schedule changes will be determined and finalized with your supervisor.

Pay: $19-20/hr.
