Job Title: Safety & Health Specialist
Location: Northern Michigan (Primary locations: Grayling or Traverse City)
Duration: 6 to 12 months
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week
Work Model: Hybrid
Pay Range: $34.08 – $38.12/hour

Position Summary

We are seeking a Safety & Health Specialist to provide daily safety expertise and support for health and safety management across the Greater Michigan (GRMI) Energy Gas Operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with governmental regulations and internal safety policies, while leading safety improvements and supporting field operations with a strong focus on Northern Michigan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular field visits to service centers and job sites across the following locations:

    • Traverse City, Cadillac, Petoskey, Grayling, Tawas, Alpena, Sault Ste. Marie, Escanaba, and Kingsford

    • Industrial Hygiene Program Management: Conduct industrial hygiene sampling for noise, Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM), and other exposures as requested by Corporate Safety. Partner with gas operations to resolve industrial hygiene issues.

    • Safety Program Leadership: Provide expert guidance and support on safety and health policies, regulations, and best practices. Lead the implementation of enterprise safety initiatives within gas operations.

    • Incident and Injury Management: Manage incident and injury events, including conducting investigations, developing countermeasures, and identifying direct controls for high-energy events. Lead investigations for recordable and high-energy incidents (HSIF/PSIF) using root cause analysis.

    • Regulatory Compliance & Engagement: Actively engage with federal and state regulators during opening conferences and field inspections (e.g., MIOSHA). Assist Gas Leadership with regulatory documentation requests and inspection support.

    • Inspections & Audits: Perform condition-based inspections, including mock inspections, satellite location reviews, and facility walk-downs.
