Position Title: Organizational Development & Learning Consultant

Location: Detroit/ Hybrid

Position Type: Long term indefinite contract

Target Salary Range: $99,000 – $149,000 (Midpoint: $124,000) Commensurate with experience

Position Summary

The Organizational Development & Learning Consultant partners directly with business leaders to assess organizational performance needs, design and develop high-impact learning solutions, and deliver targeted interventions that drive overall employee performance and organizational effectiveness.

This dynamic role seamlessly integrates instructional design, expert performance consulting, and professional facilitation to create scalable learning experiences across multiple delivery methodologies, including instructor-led, virtual, and cutting-edge digital formats.

Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities

Performance Consulting & Needs Assessment

  • Assess organizational and job performance gaps; accurately identify root causes and determine appropriate training and non-training solutions.

  • Partner closely with business leaders to clearly define performance outcomes, strategic learning objectives, and key success measures.

  • Provide expert consultation to leadership on long-term performance improvement strategies and organizational development (OD) initiatives.

Instructional Design & Development

  • Design and develop performance-based learning solutions utilizing structured methodologies (e.g., Systematic Approach to Training).

  • Develop engaging content across multiple delivery formats, including:

    • Instructor-Led Training (ILT)

    • Virtual Instructor-Led Training (VILT)

    • eLearning and interactive web-based content

    • Job aids, toolkits, and leadership/employee resource guides

  • Create comprehensive facilitator guides, participant materials, and supporting tools to ensure optimal learning transfer.

  • Ensure all learning solutions are strictly aligned with enterprise priorities, operational goals, and performance requirements.

Facilitation & Delivery

  • Facilitate engaging, high-impact learning sessions, specialized workshops, and targeted team interventions for leaders and employees.

  • Lead group discussions and strategic sessions that support leadership development, team effectiveness, and cross-functional organizational alignment.

  • Provide ongoing coaching and guidance to leadership teams on successfully applying learning and improving day-to-day performance.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

  • Develop and apply robust evaluation methods to measure the overall effectiveness of training and performance interventions.

  • Continuously analyze program outcomes and recommend strategic enhancements to maximize efficiency and instructional quality.

  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of current learning technologies, modern instructional design practices, and performance improvement methodologies.

Project & Program Management

  • Manage multiple learning and development initiatives simultaneously, overseeing scope, timelines, stakeholders, and deliverables.

  • Utilize standard project management tools and best practices to effectively manage workstreams, proactively mitigate risks, and manage dependencies.

  • Track progress against established plans and provide regular, polished updates to stakeholders regarding milestones, risks, and outcomes.

  • Coordinate seamlessly with internal teams and external vendors as needed to deliver high-quality, turn-key solutions.

Role Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, or related discipline).

  • Experience: 5+ years of dedicated instructional design, professional facilitation, and performance consulting experience.

  • Technical Breadth: Proven experience developing and delivering multi-modal learning across digital, virtual, and in-person formats.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree: Master’s degree in Organizational Development (OD), Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology, or a related field.

  • Framework Knowledge: Strong experience working with change management principles and advanced learning evaluation frameworks (e.g., Kirkpatrick levels).
