Associate Engineer – Entry Level Electrical or Civil Engineer

Location: Belleville, MI

Level: Entry-Level / Early Career

Why Join Our Team?

Are you a recent Civil or Electrical Engineering graduate looking to bridge the gap between technical design and project management? This is not just a desk job. As an Associate Engineer, you will become the internal subject matter expert for the lighting systems that keep our communities safe and bright.

Under the direct mentorship of a Senior Engineer, you will follow a clear three-year development roadmap designed to take you from a trainee to a fully independent Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in bringing specialized design work in-house, directly impacting our bottom line and innovation strategy.

The Impact You’ll Make

1. Master Photometric Design

  • Design the Future: Use industry-leading software to create internal photometric layouts, optimizing light distribution for safety, efficiency, and aesthetics.

  • Innovate: Reduce our reliance on external consultants by mastering in-house designs—a move projected to lower design costs by over 60%.

2. Set the Standard for Quality

  • Material Excellence: Develop and enforce construction standards for utility-grade equipment. You’ll ensure the hardware we install today lasts for decades.

  • Supplier Partnership: Work directly with Supply Chain and vendors to vet new products and resolve technical defects, ensuring construction projects stay on schedule.

3. Influence the Business Side of Engineering

  • Cost Management: Monitor material pricing and lead competitive bidding processes for high-turnover products.

  • Strategic Estimates: Provide accurate CIAC (Contribution in Aid of Construction) cost estimates and track project variances to ensure financial health.

4. Drive Continuous Improvement

  • Product Evolution: Introduce new lighting technologies and construction standards to enhance our utility portfolio.

  • Operations Support: Provide on-the-ground technical expertise to field crews and contribute to long-term asset management strategies.

Who You Are
  • Educated: You hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering (ABET-accredited preferred).

  • A Lifelong Learner: You are eager to undergo intensive training in photometric engineering and utility-grade material standards.

  • Analytical: You enjoy the “puzzle”of optimizing a design for both cost-efficiency and technical performance.

  • Communicator: You can translate technical specs into clear guidance for vendors and supply chain partners.

Preferred (But Not Required) Skills
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or lighting design software (e.g., AGi32, Visual).

  • Knowledge of material science or structural standards.

  • Internship experience within a utility or construction environment.

What We Offer
  • Structured Mentorship: One-on-one training with a veteran expert in the field.
