Laser Operator / Press Brake Assistant (Metal Fabrication)

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM

  • Pay Rate: $20.00 to $22.00 / hour (Depending on experience)

Position Overview

Responsible for assisting in operating the CO2 laser, operating the press brake, staging and moving materials to the next operation, and maintaining overall cleanliness in the work area. This includes organizing sheet stock and drop materials in their respective locations to keep the workspace safe and free of clutter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.

  • Load and unload sheet stock onto the laser and cut according to program files.

  • Form metal blanks using the press brake.

  • Load and unload sheet stock onto the shear and cut according to prints and cut sheets.

  • Tag drop material and store it in designated excess drop locations.

  • Work in accordance with all established procedures and instructions; accurately complete required paperwork and computer entries.

  • Maintain a clean work environment and keep tools and equipment in good working order.

  • Support continuous improvement by helping create more efficient ways to fabricate products.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience operating a CO2 laser and press brake is a plus, but not required.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and other written/verbal instructions.

  • Knowledge and understanding of working with Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and Mild Steel (able to determine material types and gauges).

  • Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to accurately read a tape measure and calipers.

  • Capable of working effectively in a team environment and utilizing strong problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to safely operate various pieces of equipment, including drill presses, vertical band saws, grinders, and a multitude of hand tools used in metal fabrication.

  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move products and materials up to 50 lbs. and work on your feet for extended periods.

  • Commitment to ensuring all duties are performed in strict compliance with OSHA, MIOSHA, and company safety requirements.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Environment: Manufacturing/production environment with exposure to noise, machinery, and metalworking processes. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

  • Physical Effort: Standing for extended periods, walking, lifting/moving materials, and performing repetitive hand movements.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with production, quality control, maintenance, and other team members to meet production requirements.
