Grinder / Finisher (Metal Fabrication)
  • Job Type: Full-Time / Onsite

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM (Must be available for up to 2 hours of daily overtime and occasional Saturdays from 6:00 AM – 12:00 PM, scheduled with at least 48 hours’ notice).

  • Pay Rate: $18.00 to $20.00 / hour (Depending on experience)

Position Overview

Grind and finish welds, sand metal surfaces, and prepare products for powder coating. Remove slag, excess weld material, burrs, and other surface imperfections to ensure products meet strict quality standards and achieve optimal powder coat adhesion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and a 40-hour work week.

  • Grind and finish welds and sand product surfaces in preparation for powder coating.

  • Follow established procedures and work instructions; accurately complete all required paperwork and computer entries.

  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and keep tools and equipment in good working condition.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing more efficient fabrication processes.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience grinding and finishing welds on metal fabrications.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and other written/verbal instructions.

  • Working knowledge of aluminum, stainless steel, and mild steel, including the ability to identify material types and thicknesses (gauges).

  • Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to accurately read tape measures and calipers.

  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to solve problems and work independently when needed.

  • Ability to safely operate a variety of fabrication equipment, including grinders, drill presses, vertical band saws, and hand/power tools.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and correct surface imperfections before finishing.

  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all OSHA, MIOSHA, and company safety policies.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Environment: Manufacturing/fabrication shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and varying temperatures. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required.

  • Physical Effort: Frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting/moving materials weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with welders, fabricators, supervisors, and the powder coating team to meet quality and production standards.
