Design QA/QC Lead

Position Summary: The Design QA/QC Lead serves as the first-line independent technical reviewer within the overhead distribution QA/QC function, performing structured 30%, 60%, and 90% design reviews (plus 0–30% scope shaping) on overhead conversion and distribution work packages from external service providers. This role ensures designs comply with utility Distribution Design Operating (DDO) standards, are constructible, and are defect-free before construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Staged Design Reviews: Evaluate external design packages at 30%, 60%, and 90% milestones for compliance with DDO standards, pole loading, clearances, conductor sizing, and voltage conversion specs.

• Technical Validation: Review technical areas including ampacity, voltage drop, transformer/fuse sizing, grounding, and construction/material list completeness.

• Quality & Compliance: Conduct site visits, log findings/RFIs, document standards exceptions, and contribute to the lessons learned process and vendor scorecards.

• Collaboration: Partner with the QA/QC Engineering Supervisor, Standards, PMO, and external design providers.

Minimum Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.

• Experience:

  • Senior Level: Minimum 6 years of relevant overhead distribution design, engineering, or construction experience.

  • Advanced Level: Minimum 8 years, including independent technical review or QA/QC experience.

• Skills: Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills; ability to manage concurrent review cycles independently.

• Preferred: Familiarity with utility DDO standards, voltage conversion projects, work management and markup tools, sag/tension analysis, and a PE license.
